Dallas Sidekicks News Release

SAN DIEGO - The Dallas Sidekicks avoided the shutout, but lost 3-1 to the San Diego Sockers in front of 3,575 at the San Diego Sports Arena Thursday.

Patrick Shamu scored the Sidekicks lone goal with 3:40 remaining and David Doyle in as the sixth attacker to pull Dallas within a goal. It was Shamu second tally of the year. Dallas (3-4) had an opportunity to tie the game when midfielder Martin Dugas got free in front of the Sockers' net, but a pass by defender Sinisa Alebic was intercepted and turned into an empty-net goal. Mauricio Alegre had the final score at 13:25 on a pass from Mariano Bollella. The Sockers (1-4) played keep-away over the final 95 seconds to get their first win of the season.

San Diego scored their first two goals in the second quarter. Mark Ughy scored first at 5:02 followed by Paul Wright at 7:01. Wright scored on a free kick at the top of the arc, bending the ball around the defensive wall. It was Ughy's sixth score of the season and Wright's first.

The Sidekicks continue to lead the league in scoring defense, allowing 29 goals through seven games for a 4.14 average. Dallas stopped the only San Diego power play, improving to eight of 14 on the penalty kill this season including six of the last seven. This was the Sidekicks lowest goal total since an 11-1 loss at the Philadelphia Kixx February 8, 2003.
