Dallas Sidekicks News Release
DALLAS - The Dallas Sidekicks increased their lead in the MISL Western Division to three-games after a 7-3 victory against the second-place San Diego Sockers at Reunion Arena Saturday. This evened the season series against the Sockers at three wins each and gave the Sidekicks a five-game home-winning streak.
Dallas (14-9) held a 6-3 advantage with five minutes left in the fourth quarter when Kiley Couch was called for tripping to give San Diego a power play. The play sparked a confrontation that sent two players from each team to the penalty box for misconduct. San Diego's Paul Wright and Nino DaSilva were penalized along with Sidekicks goalkeeper Sagu and midfielder Leo Pernia. With forward/backup goalkeeper David Doyle out after suffering a broken ankle in Sunday's victory over Philadelphia, the Sidekicks sent defender Sinisa Alebic into net. The Sidekicks killed the penalty and added a Beau Brown power-play goal into an empty-net for the 7-3 final. It was the Sidekicks first power play conversion in their last six attempts over six games.
Dallas jumped out to a 3-0 lead on first-half goals from Patrick Shamu, Ricardinho, and Martin Nash. The Sockers got on the board with 46 seconds left in the first half when Tony Velazquez pushed the ball through a crowd and into the net. The Sockers goal ended Sagu's scoreless streak at 118:14. That passes the Sidekicks previous franchise mark of 96:35 set by Krys Sobieski in December 1987.
San Diego (10-11) closed to 3-2 when Mariano Bollella tallied at 8:26 of the third quarter. Eric Dade increased the Sidekicks lead to 4-2 at 10:14 of the third on an assist from Chad Deering. It was the first point as a Sidekick for Deering, who signed with the team Thursday. Shamu then added his second goal of the game when finding the net 1:35 later.
Sean Bowers scored the final goal for the Sockers at 13:23 of the third stanza. Nick Stavrou followed with a score at 6:16 of the fourth period to give Dallas a 6-3 advantage.
The Sidekicks next game is against the Kansas City Comets (8-14) at Kemper Arena Saturday February 7 at 7:35 p.m. Coverage on KFWD Channel 52 begins at 7:30 p.m.
