
KiXX show Force against Cleveland in 7-3 victory

Cleveland, Ohio, January 31, 2004 â The Philadelphia KiXX (13-8) defeated their Eastern Division foes, the Cleveland Force (6-14), 7-3, in front of 6,526 fans at the Convocation Center at CSU. The KiXX are now a perfect 3-0 against Cleveland this season. Player/Coach Don D'Ambra tallied the game winner at 8:18 of the third quarter. Peter Pappas (12-6) earned the victory in net for Philadelphia, turning away 24 of the 27 shots he faced, while Jim Larkin (4-8) took the loss for the Force, stopping 17 of 22 chances.
Cleveland opened the scoring just 1:12 into the first quarter as defender Hector Marinaro connected with Zoran Karic to put the Force on top, 1-0. The KiXX evened the score (7:16) as defender Mauricio Vincello tallied his third goal in two games as he took a feed from Les Lunsford to knot the game at one. Just 12 seconds later (7:28) the KiXX took the lead as forward Goran Vasic added to his team-high in points with an unassisted goal to give Philadelphia a, 2-1, lead. The Force responded as defender Fred Degand registered his first career goal at 13:54 of the quarter on an assist from Ato Leone. The teams finished the first quarter of play tied at two.
KiXX midfielder Joel Shanker recorded the only goal of the second quarter as he connected with Ze Roberto at 1:42 to put Philadelphia up, 3-2, after the first half of play.
After the break, Philadelphia Player/Coach Don D'Ambra converted on a power-play opportunity as he accepted a pass from Roberto at 8:18 to give the KiXX a, 4-2, lead. Cleveland's Marinaro connected with Karic for the second time of the game at 12:58 to cut KiXX lead to, 4-3, after three quarters of play.
Philadelphia defender Pat Morris extended the KiXX lead (5-3) as he converted a pass from Shanker at 4:11 of the fourth quarter. The KiXX then tallied twice against Cleveland midfielder Justin Evans who had entered the game as a sixth attacker. Shanker (13:56) and Morris (14:39) each recorded their second goals of the game as Philadelphia registered the 7-3 victory.
Notes: Vincello played in his 50th career game. D'Ambra tallied a team-high fifth game-winning goal. The KiXX are now 5-1 against their Division rivals.
