Sich's OT Tally Lifts Outlaws Over Whalers

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa - For the third time in as many meetings, the Williamsport Outlaws and Danbury Whalers had a game decided in overtime, but for the first time the Outlaws come away with the OTW thanks to the goal from Rob Sich at the 1:51 mark of overtime.

As expected, this meeting was extremely physical with a lot of hitting from both sides. The first period saw no goals, but did see a combined 20 minutes of penalties between the two clubs. In total, the Whalers and Outlaws would combine for 52 penalty minutes (26 minutes each). With the power plays starting at a high rate, it was the penalty kills that showed the true skill as they combined for a total of 3 for 14 on the power play (Danbury 2-7, Williamsport 1-7).

The scoring came in the second period and was started by Brett Needham, who redirected a Jeff Winchester shot behind Mike Smith on the power play at the 8:43 mark of the second period. Trevor Karaseiwicz picked up the second assist, his 16th of the season.

The Outlaws would add a second goal in the period when Martin Moucha scored his fourth goal of the season at the 10:51 mark of the period. Matt Smyth picked up the first assist, extending his point streak to 10 games. Karasiewicz notched the second assist for his league leading 17th assist of the season, and his team high 18th point.

Danbury would tie the game in the third period with goals from Tyler Noseworthy at the 2:35 mark and a goal fromAdam Houli at the 10:49 mark, both goals coming on the power play.

The last time Danbury played in Williamsport, the Outlaws surrenderd a 3-1 lead and lost in overtime with Mike Dilorenzo in net, feeling all too familiar, regulation ended tied a two goals apiece.

Chris Whitley, who came away with the second star, would not let history repeat itself making two saves in overtime. Whitley finished with 39 saves on 41 shots.

Sich's goal was his team high 11th goal and at the time of this publication was a league high total.

The Outlaws outshot the Whalers 41 to 34 in the win.
