Anthony, 1000 Islands blank Danville, 5-0

Matt Anthony was superb between the pipes for the 1000 Islands Privateers, as he did not allow a goal in a 5-0 victory over the Danville Dashers.

Chris Greene was all over the ice for 1000 Islands, as he grabbed two goals in the win. Greene scored at 13:47 into the first period to make the score 1-0 1000 Islands and again while on the power play 9:51 into the third to make the score 4-0 1000 Islands.

The Privateers stifled Danville's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. 1000 Islands was steadier on the defensive front than it has been for much of this season. The Privateers allow 2.5 goals per game. The 37 shots that 1000 Islands put on net surpassed the Privateers' average of 33.6 shots per game this season.

The Privateers additionally got points from Justin MacDonald, who also finished with two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Michael Fransen also scored for 1000 Islands. Other players who recorded assists for 1000 Islands were Peter Campbell, who had one and Brent Tamane, Zak Ray, and Adam McAllister, who each chipped in two.

The Dashers were often in penalty trouble, totaling four minors and six majors for 48 minutes in penalty time. Danville had been averaging 28.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Dashers could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Danville averages 2.3 goals per game. The Dashers' penalty kill unit could not stop 1000 Islands' power play, which converted on two of three opportunities. Danville's defensemen bolstered the Dashers' offensive attack, as they bombarded Anthony with 20 shots. With 45 shots on target during the contest, Danville exceeded the 38.3 shots it averages per game this year.

The Dashers were led by Henry Coxe, who took eight shots.

The Privateers' Anthony stopped 45 shots out of the 45 that he faced. Josselin St Pierre made 32 saves for Danville on 37 shots.

Karasiewicz Shorty Sparks Outlaws Over Bluefins

WILLIAMSPORT - Trevor Karasiewicz started the scoring for his Outlaws with a short-handed goal, which happened to be his first goal of the season, to help lead the Outlaws to a 5-2 victory over the Cape Cod Bluefins.

The first period saw three tallies, two from the Outlaws and one from the Bluefins. Aftre Karasiewicz goal, Cape Cod was able to tie the game at the 8:33 mark when Kevin McCready beat Chris Whitley. Matt Smyth was able to get the Outlaws back on with a goal from Karasiewicz, his league leading 14th assist, and Martin Moucha at the 9:25 mark of the period.

Smyth would start the scoring for the Outlaws in the second period with his 10th goal of the season at the 3:47 mark to give the Outlaws a 3-1 lead. The Outlaws never surrenders the lead after that point. Chris Campanale would make it 3-2 after finding the empty net at the 5:41 mark of the period. After that goal, Chris Whitley would not surrender another goal.

The Outlaws however, would add two more goals of their own. The first of the two when Jeff Winchester scored his second goal as an Outlaw to make it 4-2 at the 11:36 mark and Chris Leveille capped the scoring at the 18:20 mark from Rob Sich.

Chris Whitley would end the night with 34 saves on 36 Bluefins shots. The Outlaws peppered Scott Barchard, who made 46 saves on 51 shots faced.

Williamsport out shot the Bluefins 40-19 through two periods of play, averaging a shot per minute.

Winchester has had at least one point in his first three games with the Outlaws. Matt Smyth has had at least one point in his last nine games. Trevor Karasiewicz leads the FHL with 14 assists and leads the team with 15 points.

The Outlaws faceoff against the Danbury Whalers tomorrow night at Airmen Pond at Historic Bowman Field in Williamsport.
