Biloxi Shuckers News Release
BILOXI, MS - The Biloxi Shuckers (21-21) got as close as 6-4, but eight runs over the final two innings, including five in the ninth, helped the Montgomery Biscuits (22-20) to a 14-4 win at MGM Park on Thursday night.
The Biscuits got on the board in the second with a solo home run from Heriberto Hernandez, one of five on the night from Montgomery. They extended the lead in the fourth with a two-run shot from Mason Auer that made it 3-0. In the fifth, they extended the lead again, this time to five, after an RBI triple from Ronny Simon and a sacrifice fly from Alika Williams.
On the mound, Biscuits starter Anthony Molina retired the first 12 batters he faced, including a perfect first time through the order.
The Shuckers got on the board in the bottom of the fifth with a double from Carlos Rodriguez and an RBI groundout from Wes Clarke that made it 5-2. In the sixth, Hernandez smashed his second home run of the night to make it 6-2. The homer was sandwiched between two leaping catches in the outfield. One from Jackson Chourio in right-center and another from Lamar Sparks in right that stole a home run from Diego Infante. In the bottom of the inning, Tyler Black hammered a home run off the scoreboard to bring the Shuckers within three.
After robbing a home run, Sparks hit a homer himself in the seventh with a solo shot to trim the deficit to two. The home run was the second in as many nights for the outfielder.
In the eighth, the Biscuits exploded for three runs off home runs from Logan Driscoll and Evan Edwards. With the lead at 9-4, they scored five more in the ninth off five hits and two walks.
Shuckers starter Tobias Myers (3-2) took the loss while Molina (2-2) earned the win for Montgomery after throwing six innings in just 66 pitches.
The Shuckers play host to the Biscuits on Friday night with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. A patriotic fireworks display presented by Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Biloxi will light up the skies over MGM Park immediately following the game. The Shuckers will also wear their special Armed Forces caps that will be available for auction.
