Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits (1-3) were shutout 8-0 by the Biloxi Shuckers (3-1), on Sunday afternoon at Riverwalk Stadium, dropping their third-straight game of the season thanks to a dominant pitching performance by Thomas Jankins (1-0).
The 22-year-old right-hander out of Worcester, MA was making his Double-A debut on Sunday and exceeded expectations, twirling seven scoreless innings for the Shuckers. Jankins, who is skipping a level this season having pitched all of last year for Low-A Wisconsin, flustered Biscuit hitters all afternoon and at one point retired 13 of 14 batters en route to the victory.
Benton Moss (0-1) got the start for Montgomery and started out spectacularly, striking out the side to open up the game in the top of the first. In the second, however, Moss would walk Blake Allemand before Trent Grisham mashed an opposite field home run over the left field wall to give Biloxi the lead for good.
Former Biscuit Jake Hager would add an RBI-double in the fourth, and Lucas Erceg an RBI-single in the sixth to make it 4-0. In the seventh, Dylan Moore walloped an RBI-double of his own before a Hager sac fly increased the Shucker lead to six. Home runs by Jake Gatewood and Moore in the eighth and ninth respectively made it 8-0.
Nick Solak and Brett Sullivan each collected two hits in the defeat for the Biscuits, who have scored just eight runs through the first four games of the season, and who are just 2-for-37 with runners in scoring position to begin the year.
Montgomery will try to end the series on a high note in the finale on Monday night when Eduar Lopez makes his Double-A debut against Cody Ponce at 6:35 PM.
