Odessa Jackalopes News Release
Odessa, TX - The Odessa Jackalopes, proud members of the North American Hockey League, are excited for the seventh annual Shriner's Weekend this Friday, April 1st and Saturday, April 2nd at Ector County Coliseum. The two-day event includes a pair of Jackalopes games against the Lone Star Brahmas, plus dueling pianos, a jersey auction and a chili and BBQ cook-off.
The festivities begin at 6:00 p.m. Friday when the gates open for the Jacks and Brahmas tilt that starts at 7:05. The Jackalopes will be wearing specialty Shriner's Jerseys for both games before auctioning them off following Saturday's game with a portion of the proceeds going to the Shriners Club of Odessa. Chefs who plan to participate in the Chili and BBQ cook-off will pay an entry fee of $25, and the competition will begin at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
The Jersey auction is Odessa's final specialty auction of the season and the most anticipated. The Jacks have donated over $50,000 each of the last three years to the Odessa Shrine Club. Last year the proceeds were taken to the Houston Shriners Hospital for prosthetics and cleft palate. In 2016, the money will be sent to the Galveston Shriners Hospital specializing in burns.
"Shriners is an amazing organization and were always proud hosting this weekend," Said Jackalopes President, Kevin Leisgang. "The generosity of the folks that participate and bid on jerseys is remarkable."
Following Saturday's game against Lone Star, the jersey auction will begin in the east corner of the Coliseum. After the auction concludes dueling pianos will start near the east entrance. Dueling pianos is free upon hockey admission.
"The Jacks and Shriners have been a perfect marriage. The weekend has been a hit every year, and it keeps getting bigger and better," said Odessa Shrine Club president, Rick Coe. "The food is amazing; the atmosphere is always great and the money raised is essential."
Tickets for both games begin as low as $8 and $6 for kid's ages 4-12. The Odessa Jackalopes are in their fifth season in the North American Hockey League in 2015-16 and 19th in the Permian Basin. April 1st, 2nd, 8th and 9th tickets are on sale now. To reserve your seats, contact the Jackalopes' ticket office today at 432-552-7825 or log on to www.jackalopes.org for more information.
