Showdown for Top Spot at McMahon
October 7, 2015 - Canadian Football League (CFL)
Calgary Stampeders News Release
It's a showdown for first place in the West Division as the Stampeders face provincial rival Edmonton at McMahon Stadium on Saturday. Kickoff for the Week 16 contest is 5 p.m.
Calgary leads the West at 11-3 while the second-place Eskimos are 10-4. The winner of Saturday's contest will win the season series - the Stamps and Esks split a home-and-home series in early September - and thereby have the edge should the rivals finish the season with identical records.
Both teams clinched playoff berths with last-second victories last week. The Stamps were 23-20 winners Friday in Hamilton thanks to a Rene Paredes field goal on the final play of the game. On Saturday, the Eskimos edged the Blue Bombers 24-23 in Winnipeg thanks to Sean Whyte's 53-yard field goal with no time remaining.
The Alberta squads have both been rolling of late with each team's most recent loss coming at the hands of the other. The Stamps have won three in a row since a 27-16 loss to the Eskimos in the Labour Day rematch while Edmonton has won four straight since a 16-7 loss at McMahon in the Labour Day Classic.
Calgary head coach and general manager John Hufnagel heads into the contest just one regular-season win shy of 100 in his career. The win over Hamilton put him in a tie with Cal Murphy for 10th place in the CFL's all-time list with 99.
The Stamps are undefeated at home in 2015 with seven wins in as many tries while the Eskimos are 4-3 on the road.
The first 10,000 fans through the gates will be given a Rocky Mountain Equipment cowbell or a pink horn.
PinkPower
Saturday is the Stamps' eighth annual PinkPower game as part of the team's partnership with the Canadian Cancer Society in the battle against women's cancers. Players will be wearing pink accessories and fans will get the opportunity to buy limited-edition toques, scarves and mittens. All merchandise is on sale for $20 per piece and the proceeds will be directed to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Dodge Fan Zone Pre-Game Party
Saturday's activity kicks off early at 2 p.m. in the Dodge Fan Zone, located in the east parking lot across from the Stamps Store and Ticket Office. Watch for the Tim Hortons Cruiser along with food trucks, a live DJ, partner games and giveaways.
Calgary Harley-Davidson Trike Race
During halftime, fans will be competing in the Calgary Harley-Davidson Trike Race with the winner taking home the grand prize of a 2015 Harley-Davidson Street Bob.
