Shots Galore Seal Orlando Victory

Florida Seals News Release

Orlando – The Orlando Seals drilled a season-high 54 shots on goal in Thursday's 4-1 win over the Lakeland Loggerheads. The Seals improve to 17-6-2 on the season, good for second place in the WHA2.

Joe Urbanik got things rolling for the Seals with his 5th goal of the season, a wrist shot high to the glove side of Lakeland goaltender Tyler Murray, at 7:09 of the first period. B.J. Stephens' first of two on the night made it 2-0 at 11:30 of the same frame.

Stephens opened the second period with his second tally of the game to make it 3-0 Orlando. The Seals winger drove hard into the Lakeland zone for a shorthanded bid but was denied by Murray. Just as the penalty ended, Stephens regained control behind the net and flipped a pass to Brad Federenko in the right wing circle. Federenko hit Ryan Anderson in the slot, who chipped a backhand pass back to Stephens on the doorstep for his 18th goal of the season.

Seals fans thought they had a 4-0 game later in the second when Seamus Galligan drilled a slapshot past Murray from just inside the Lakeland blue line. Referee Mike Hughes ruled no goal, citing the whistle had blown on a delayed penalty call.

Federenko added a goal of his own in the third period, a strange bounce behind the Lakeland net that caught Murray looking the other way, for a 4-0 Seals lead.

Lakeland's Rob Schweyer snapped David Goverde's shutout late in the third but that was all the Loggerheads could muster as they drop to 4-18-4 on the season.

The Seals rev up their engines again on Saturday, January 17 for NASCAR Night at the TD Waterhouse Centre when the Seals host the Alabama Slammers at 7:35 pm. There will be a number of NASCAR giveaways, including a Kyle Petty autographed jersey, courtesy of Cycle Rider Radio. The Seals will also wear special NASCAR jerseys which will be auctioned via a silent auction during the game. Successful bidders will receive their jersey from players on the ice after the game. All games can be heard at www.IRN.FM.
