Three Things You Need to Know
1.) Allen Wins Regular Season- The fight for the Bud Poile Governors' Cup went down to the final day of the regular season and thanks to a 3-2 win in Tulsa on Sunday, the Allen Americans (39-18-9, 87 points) have won the regular season title for the second time in the past three seasons. The Americans will head into the playoffs as the number one seed and have home-ice advantage throughout the post-season. Allen beat out Wichita who finished one point behind with 86 points (39-19-8). It matches the lowest win total for the top team in the regular season in league history (Wichita in 1992-93 went 39-18-3 in a 60 game season). The last team to win the Governors' Cup and the Presidents' Cup in the same season was the 2004-05 Colorado Eagles. Allen's post-season quest begins on Thursday when the host the eighth-seeded Denver Cutthroats.
2.) Thinel Finishes on Top- The CHL announced on Monday that Missouri Mavericks forward Sebastien Thinel has been named the CHL Most Valuable Player to go along with winning the Joe Burton Scoring Championship. Thinel finished with 96 points (29-67=96) and was second in the league with a +28 plus/minus rating. Thinel earned 22 of the 44 votes for MVP with Quad City's Mickey Lang finishing second in the voting with 16 votes. Thinel becomes the first player to win the scoring championship three times (2009 and 2011) and he becomes the fourth player to win the MVP twice joining Joe Burton, Don Parsons and Jeff Bes.
3.) Opening Round Match-Ups- The Opening Round of the Ray Miron Presidents' Cup Playoffs gets underway on Thursday with three games and the final series starts on Friday when Rapid City and Missouri open their best-of-7 series. On Thursday, the Allen Americans host the Denver Cutthroats, the Fort Worth Brahmas host the Quad City Mallards and the Wichita Thunder host the Arizona Sundogs. One-Timers
-Missouri's rookie forward Kenton Miller scored five goals and had three assists in the final week of the regular season earning the Oakley CHL Player of the Week award. Miller scored 30 goals on the season (51 points) becoming the Mavs all-time single season record holder for goals.

-The Denver Cutthroats finished the season series with the Rapid City Rush with nine wins in 16 games. The series was incredibly close with 11 of the 16 games being decided by one goal and eight of the games going to overtime/shootouts.
-The Quad City Mallards head into the post-season as one of the hottest teams with a five-game win streak to end the regular season and eight consecutive wins on home ice. The Flock finished with a 34-26-6 record and now head into the playoffs to face the Fort Worth Brahmas who they lost three of four games against in the regular season series.
