Three Things You Need to Know
1.) Finding the Net- The Quad City Mallards (7-3-4) may not be sitting atop the standings but having played the fewest games in the league (14) and with the way they have handled their last couple of weeks, the Flock may be the scariest team in the CHL. Quad City has been one of the top offensive teams in the league all season long and on Saturday night they showed it with a nine-goal outburst against the Tulsa Oilers (10-9-2). The Flock is 5-1-3 over their last nine games and are currently tops in the league averaging 4.14 goals per game. Over the last five games, Mike Stinziani, Thomas Frazee and Jeff Lee have all scored four goals. The Mallards host Brampton (10-8-1) in a three-in-three starting Friday night.
2.) Rush Continue to Rule- The Rapid City Rush (14-2-0) continue to sit atop the CHL standings after winning two of three over the weekend against the Denver Cutthroats (10-6-3). The rivals met on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday with the Fish taking game 1 in the series and the Rush coming back to capture the next two games. The Rush take their perfect road record (7-0) to Texas this weekend to face Allen Americans (12-6-1) who are tied with the Missouri Mavericks (12-3-1) for second place in the conference, three points behind Rapid City. The Rush's Konrad Reeder has been on a tear with points in 12 straight games and sitting tied for fourth in the league in scoring with 11 goals and 14 assists (25 points).
3.) An End in Sight- The Brampton Beast (10-8-1) finally see the light at the end of the tunnel on their league-long 11-game road trip. The journey has the Beast 4-4 so far with wins in three of their last four contests. Brampton will get a steady diet of duck this weekend facing off against the Quad City Mallards (7-3-4) on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Brampton returns home for the first time since November 10th on Thursday, December 12th when they host the Tulsa Oilers (10-9-2). Rob Collins has been hot lately with four goals and three assists over his last five games.
By the Numbers
907:14: The league-leading number of minutes played in net this season by Rapid City's Tim Boron. The veteran netminder leads the league in multiple categories including wins (13), goals against average (2.05) and save percentage (.937). In his CHL career, Boron ranks 19th on the all-time wins list with 92 victories.
One-Timers
-Arizona (7-10-1) had their season-high six-game win streak come to an end on Friday night when they dropped a 5-3 decision to Allen. The Americans went on to win on Saturday as well by a 4-1 count. Arizona's Jason Morgan has been named the Oakley 3 Stars Player of the Month for November with three first star honors and one second star (18 total star points).
-Quad City Head Coach Terry Ruskowski won his 416th CHL game on Saturday in a 9-3 triumph over Tulsa. Ruskowski moved past Chris Stewart into third place on the league's all-time wins list trailing only Doug Sauter (544) and Scott Muscutt (442).
-Wichita defenseman Andrew Martens is riding an eight-game point streak with two goals and eight assists over that stretch. His push has him second in the league in scoring among defensemen with 15 points (RPD's Tristin Llewellyn has 16 points).
-Missouri's Sebastien Thinel continues to rack up points sitting with a league-best 14-game point streak (22 points). The reigning CHL Most Valuable Player has eight goals and 15 assists this season ranking eighth on the league's point list.
-The three longest goal streaks in the CHL this season have all been claimed by Tulsa forward. Ben Gordon has the current longest active streak at five games (5G) chasing the league-high of seven games posted by his teammate Michel Beausoleil. Adam Pleskach also had a five-game goal streak earlier in the season.
-After an impressive 5-3 win in Missouri on Nov. 23, the St. Charles Chill have dropped three straight decisions, all by a 4-3 score. Two of those were in shootouts making St. Charles 1-1-2 over their last four.
-Rapid City rookie forward Kyle Stroh has scored goals in three straight games and in four of his last five games.
