Charleston Lowgators News Release

CHARLESTON, S.C. (March 20) The Fayetteville Patriots knocked off the Charleston Lowgators 110-89 at the North Charleston Coliseum on Saturday night. Junie Sanders led seven Patriots in double-figures with 24 points, with 19 of them coming in the first half.

With the game tied at 13 early on, Cedric Henderson hit two go-ahead free-throws for Fayetteville (18-20) and the Patriots would not trail again. Trailing by as many as 29, the Lowgators (22-17) only real comeback run came in the third period when they cut a 20-point halftime deficit to 11. However, the Patriots outscored the home team 24-8 to finish the frame and led 87-60 going into the final quarter before coasting home with the victory.

"It was a great team effort for us on the road," Fayetteville coach Jeff Capel said. "We played well both offensively and defensively."

Seven out of the eight Patriots that played scored at least 12 points. Marc Mazur had 16 points and 11 rebounds off the bench, while Cedric Henderson, Kenny Satterfield and Brian Brown each chipped in with 15. Fayetteville played without Jason Capel, who was injured and Alvin Pettway, who was not with the team.

Charleston coach Doug Marty said, "We were not ready to play and did not have any energy until it was too late. They out-hustled us, out-rebounded us and got to the free-throw line twice as much. It was a disappointing loss."

Tierre Brown’s 16 points and 10 assists led the Lowgators, while Alpha Bangura added 15 off the bench.

Despite the loss, the Lowgators remain in a first-place tie with Asheville, who lost in a double-overtime thriller to Huntsville.

Charleston will host Roanoke on Sunday at 5 p.m. and Fayetteville will entertain Huntsville on Wednesday.
