Short Handed BayHawks Blast Skyforce
March 9, 2010 - NBA G League (G League)
Erie BayHawks News Release
Erie, Pennsylvania, Tuesday, March 9 - The Erie BayHawks, playing without two starters, used a balanced scoring attack to stun the Sioux Falls Skyforce 116-93 in front of a raucous School Kids Jam crowd of 4,268 fans at the Tullio Arena Tuesday afternoon.
Winners of their last nine games, the Skyforce entered the day as the league's hottest team. But it was Erie who had the hot hand as four starters contributed at least twenty points each improving to 15-25.
The BayHawks jumped out to an eight-point first quarter lead and never looked back as their margin grew to 14 points at halftime and 20 points at the end of three quarters. As a team, Erie connected on ten three-point baskets and shot 100% at the free throw line sinking all sixteen attempts on the day.
John Bryant and Mike Gansey each scored 24 points, Ivan Harris added 21 and Blake Ahearn chipped in 20 and handed out 15 assists. Kyle Goldcamp, in his first career start, added 12 points. Erie played without guards Cedric Jackson, who was invited to work out for an NBA team, and Jackie Manuel who has the flu.
Sioux Falls shot just 43% from the field and failed to connect on any of their eight attempts from long-range as they dropped to 24-16. Chris McCray was the bright spot offensively for the Skyforce connecting on ten field goals and tallying 23 points.
The BayHawks hit the road for a trip west as they visit the Albuquerque Thunderbirds on Friday, the Idaho Stampede on Saturday and the Utah Flash next Monday.
Sioux Falls visits the Fort Wayne Mad Ants on Sunday.
