Delmarva Shorebirds News Release
SALEM, VA: The Delmarva Shorebirds (27-32) split their Wednesday doubleheader with the Salem Red Sox (26-32) as they were defeated in game one but rebounded to win the nightcap.
GAME 1:
The Shorebirds took the lead in a blink of an eye in the first game of the night as Trendon Craig went yard to straightaway center on the first pitch of the game to take a quick 1-0 lead.
The Red Sox then used a two-run homer in the next inning by Albert Feliz to take a 2-1 advantage.
They'd build upon that lead in the next inning as Lyonell James drove in a pair with a single to left to make it 4-1 Red Sox.
In the fifth, the lead grew on a solo home run by Cutter Coffey, followed by an RBI double by Lyonell James with an error moments later that scored another run, putting Delmarva in a 7-1 hole.
They were unable to get anything going in the later innings and they'd go on to lose by that 7-1 score in the first game of the doubleheader.
Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz (6-1) was the winner for the Red Sox with Wyatt Cheney (2-6) taking the loss for the Shorebirds.

GAME 2
Delmarva would serve as the home team in game two, making up a previous home game from April 30 and their offense would get it going right away as they struck for three runs in the bottom of the second. With two runners aboard, Adam Crampton scorched a double to the wall in left-center to score Anderson De Los Santos, making it 1-0 Shorebirds. Luis Gonzalez then punched a long single down the right field line to bring in Crampton, upping the lead to 2-0. Angel Tejada finished the frame with an RBI single as Erison Placencia touched home on the play, giving Delmarva a 3-0 edge after two.
Starting pitcher Jared Beck held the Red Sox in order by tossing four scoreless innings with seven strikeouts, his most Ks this season in a starting role.
Hugo Beltran took over in the fifth and followed Beck with a 1-2-3 inning where he struck out the side in order.
He'd run into some trouble in the sixth after the Red Sox put their first run on the board with an RBI single by Lyonell James with two outs to make it a 3-1 game. Yaqui Rivera entered to get the final out and he would accomplish that by getting Juan Chacon to ground out to second base to keep the tying runs in scoring position.
Rivera would then deal an efficient top of the seventh to close out the Red Sox, securing a 3-1 victory in the nightcap to earn a doubleheader split with Salem.
Hugo Beltran (2-0) earned the win in relief for Delmarva with Yaqui Rivera (6) picking up a four-out save. Salem starter Luis De La Rosa (2-4) was the losing pitcher for the Red Sox.
The Shorebirds will now go for a 3-1 series lead on Thursday night as Deivy Cruz toes the slab against Bradley Blalock for the Red Sox with first pitch slated for 7:05 p.m.
