Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Four days from Halloween, the Waterloo Black Hawks and Ohio Junior Blue Jackets played a surreally similar game to their first meeting less than 24 hours earlier, both resulting in 3-2 Waterloo wins.

One difference Saturday was that the Hawks took the lead first. On a powerplay seven minutes into the action Kory Kaunisto located John Lee's deflected shot and scored his first goal of the season.

Ohio tied the score when Brett Perlini stole a puck in the Hawks' end and set up a long goal from Nolan Ryan at 11:23. Just 1:29 later, with Waterloo back to the powerplay, Brock Montpetit's hard work behind the Blue Jacket net led to Billy Maday's go-ahead strike.

The Hawks remained ahead until 7:01 of the third when a fluttering shot from Greg Pateryn found the net, and for the second consecutive night the game went to overtime and eventually a shootout tied at two.

Once again, Scott Pavelski netted a big goal, this time the first of the shootout, with Waterloo's fifth shot. Once again, Ohio's Patrick Goebel tied the shootout score at 1-1. Once again, the game was decided in the seventh round; Nick Larson's shot over Corson Cramer's right shoulder put the Hawks up 2-1. The game ended in Matt DiGirolamo's glove when he stopped Danny Hobbs' bid to force an eighth round.

The Black Hawks' four-game road trip ends in Cedar Rapids Friday. The Hawks return home Saturday to host the Omaha Lancers at 7:05.
