Shock Prepare For Second Of Three Game Road Stint

March 26, 2013 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Spokane Shock News Release

SPOKANE, WA (March 26, 2013) - The Spokane Shock (1-0) take on the Chicago Rush (0-1) for the second game of their three game road trip. This will be the first National Conference match up for each team this season after opening their seasons against non-conference opponents. Kickoff is scheduled for Sunday, March 31st at 1:00 PM PST and will be available for viewing online at shock.arenafootball.com/allaccess and on 700AM ESPN Radio.

The Shock defeated the Cleveland Gladiators 67-41 on Sunday. In his first game back in over a calendar year after suffering a season ending injury in Spokane's opening home game of the 2012 season, the Shock's Erik Meyer put up impressive numbers (32-24, 284yds, 9 total TD) against the Cleveland Galdiators accounting for 54 of the Shock's 67 points. After having a record setting 2012 season, Adron Tennell picked up where he left off catching 4 TDs and rushing for another on Sunday. Shock rookie WR Kamar Jorden also made his presence felt, racking up 9 receptions for 60 yards and 2 touchdowns.

The Chicago Rush were defeated at home by the Iowa Barnstormers 41-63 in their 2013 season opener; this is the first time in the last five meetings Iowa has beaten Chicago. QB Carson Coffman threw for 217 yards, 6 TDs and 2 interceptions. Returning WR Reggie Gray had 7 receptions for 63 yards and 4 TDs.

The Shock will be looking to exploit the young QB play after former Rush QB Russ Michna ended his AFL career prior to the start of the season by retirement. Michna threw for 4,470 yards and 89 TDs last season, 9 of those TDs coming in one game against the Shock. Leading WR Reggie Gray will also be a defensive concern, Gray's veteran prowess has placed him at the top of the AFL over the last few seasons for his contributions as a wide receiver and special teams player. Last week, the Shock defense racked up four sacks and a fumble recovery in their 67-41 win over Cleveland all while holding the Gladiators to a mere 50% on third and fourth down conversions (including two four-and-out situations).

In their second consecutive road game the Shock will be trying to continue the momentum from last week's win. The Shock have one more road game before they return for their home opener against the 2012 AFL defending ArenaBowl champion and West Division Rivals, the Arizona Rattlers on April 12th, 2013.
