
SaberCats WR Huey Whittaker Earns J. Lewis Small Playmaker of the Week Honors

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The Arena Football League and the SaberCats announced today that wide receiver Huey Whittaker has earned weekly honors from the AFL for his performance this past Saturday in San Jose's 47-42 win over the San Antonio Talons. Whittaker was named the J. Lewis Small Playmaker of the Week and is also a candidate for the AFL MVP of the week, voted on by fans at ArenaFootball.com starting on Wednesday at 10 a.m. PT.
Whittaker turned in a clutch performance, making game-changing plays at both wide receiver and linebacker, totaling five touchdowns. On offense, the SaberCats jack of all trades had eight receptions for 89 yards and four touchdowns. On the other side of the ball, Whittaker was all over the field, finishing the season opener with three tackles (one solo, four assisted), and a pass breakup. He also created two turnovers, forcing a fumble and returning an interception 45 yards for a touchdown.
The SaberCats (1-0) open their 2013 home slate on Friday, March 29 against the Orlando Predators (0-1) at 7:30 p.m. PT at HP Pavilion. The first 5,000 fans in attendance will receive a SaberCats rally towel, courtesy of Logitech. The game will be broadcast live on Comcast SportsNet Bay Area and KNBR 1050.
