Spokane Shock News Release
Kennewick, WA: The Spokane Shock fell to the Tri-Cities Fever tonight in Kennewick, 39-34.
Fever QB Brian Baker led the Fever's offensive charge accounting for over 200 yards and six touchdowns. Baker spread the ball around to a deep receiving core including league leading receiver JR Thomas who led the team in receptions (8), yardage (73) and was tied with Deontrae Johnson for the team lead in touchdowns (2). Four Fever receivers had multiple receptions tonight including Thomas, Johnson, Bryon Rogers and Robert Garth.
The offense of the Shock seemed to be out of sync as QB Andrico Hines (8-33, 106 yards and three touchdowns) and the receiving core were never on the same page tonight. The Fever's defensive line brought heavy pressure, while the Fever's secondary locked down Shock receivers for most of the night. WR Antwone Savage once again led the team in receptions (5) and yardage (75) and tied for the lead in (WR Kelvin Dickens, and Chico Mackey each had one) touchdown receptions (1).
Tri-Cities native Raul Vijil was unable to play tonight still suffering from his injury in last week's game against Bakersfield. Vijil's absence proved to WR Chico Mackey's gain as he was removed from the injured reserve list this week and was inserted into tonight's starting line-up. Mackey was placed on IR after suffering an ankle injury in the pre-season scrimmage against the Fever shortly before the start of the regular season. Although Mackey only had two receptions in his return, he still managed to lead the team in all-purpose yardage (113).
After the game, Coach Shackleford said there will be some "changes" this week as the Shock prepare to host divisional-rival the Boise Burn.
"Our QB position is wide open this week; we also need to get healthy and get ready for Boise this weekend," Shackleford said.
