Spokane Shock News Release
December 17, 2008 - Spokane, WA: The Spokane Shock announced today that LB Lee Foliaki, K Brian Jackson and OL Pat Schwenke have been added to their 2009 roster.
Foliaki and Jackson return to Spokane after spending the 2008 National Conference Championship season with the Shock.
Foliaki, 6-3 245, started in all regular and post-season games last season and finished third on the team in tackles (59) - including 2.5 sacks. Occasionally used as an offensive weapon, Foliaki recorded two receptions, both for touchdowns.
"It's a no-brainer having an athlete like him back," Head Coach Adam Shackleford explained. "He was really the heart of the defense (last year); he plays with a lot of passion and he hits hard. Our defense, especially on the goal line, is going to be tough."
Jackson, 5-7 185, finished second in the league in point-after accuracy (106/119, 89%) and was fourth in scoring (amongst kickers).
"He was one of the best kickers in the league last year," Shackleford said. "I think we found out during camp (last year) what a great kicker we had. We knew we had the ability to on-side kick at any time and convert field goals from any point on the field."
Schwenke finished his collegiate career in 2007 at West Texas A&M and signed a free-agent contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers this season.
In his senior season, Schwenke was named all-Conference (the Lone Star Conference) and anchored a pass-first offense that won its third straight Conference Title.
"With Pat Schwenke, we feel like we got a very good addition to an already strong group of offensive lineman," Shackleford said. "He has tremendous character off the field but on the field, he is extremely aggressive and plays whistle to whistle on every play."
