Shock Add Depth to Offense in Prep for Home Opener

Spokane, Wash. (April 2, 2015) - The Shock have been assigned offensive lineman Tavaris Jeffries and quarterback Matt Bassuener to the 2015 roster.

Jeffries (6-4, 329, Oklahoma) joins the Shock for his rookie season as a member of the Arena Football League. Jeffries played his final two collegiate football seasons with the Oklahoma Sooners in 2009-2010, helping the team to a 20-7 overall record which included a 2010 conference championship and Fiesta Bowl win against the University of Connecticut Huskies. Prior to attending Oklahoma, Jeffries played at Coahoma Community College (MS) and was listed by the Clarion Ledger as one of the top 25 JUCO prospects in the nation as he played both tackle positions. Jeffries attended Trezevant High School in Memphis, TN.

Bassuener (6-1, 200, Georgetown) joins the Shock for his fourth AFL season in 2015. During the 2014 season, Bassuener played in seven games for the San Antonio Talons and passed for 1,207 yards and 23 touchdowns while adding 48 rushes for 228 yards and one score. In 2012 with the Cleveland Gladiators, Bassuener completed 44 of 72 pass attempts for 506 yards and eight touchdowns in 12 games. During his rookie AFL season in 2011 with the Tulsa Talons, he completed 164 of 277 pass attempts for 1,803 yards and 27 touchdowns in 14 appearances. Bassuener played his collegiate football at Georgetown University where he was originally recruited as a defensive back before converting to quarterback in 2006. He finished his Hoya career with 3,233 yards and 23 touchdowns. Bassuener originally hails from Port Edwards, WI.

Spokane will host the Philadelphia Soul this Saturday, April 4 for their Week 2 regular season match up. This week will be the 10th electrifying home opener and dollar night at Spokane Veteran's Memorial with one dollar soda, hot dogs, and popcorn available at arena concessions. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. PT with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
