April 2, 2015 - Arena Football League (AFL) News Release
CHICAGO - Cleveland Gladiators defensive back Joe Phinisee has been voted AFL MVP for Week 1 of the 2015 Arena Football League season.
Phinisee (5-10, 190, Walsh), who also earned Riddell Defensive Player of the Week honors, was seemingly all over the field in Cleveland's 60-44 victory over the Tampa Bay Storm in Week 1. He finished the game with two tackles, a pair of fumble recoveries -- one of which was returned for a touchdown -- and an interception.
Fans had 24 hours to vote for the AFL MVP award on ArenaFootball.com. Phinisee earned more than 50 percent of the fan vote, beating out fellow candidates Dan Raudabaugh of the Philadelphia Soul and Jamar Howard of the Portland Thunder.
