LOUISVILLE, KY— Despite a rain delay that lasted an hour and twenty-nine minutes both starters came out fresh as Columbus beat Louisville, 1-0. The loss leaves the Bats eight games behind the Clippers in the International League's West Division.

Buddy Carlyle (4-1) produced a solid start for the Clippers. He allowed no runs in five innings of work giving up four hits and a walk while striking out three. Colter Bean, C.J. Nitkowski, Bret Prinz and Steve Karsay provided the middle relief combining to shut out the Bats for three innings while striking out three. Scott Proctor earned his first save of the season in closing out the Bats in the ninth inning.

Louisville starter Seth Etherton (3-4) provided the Bats with a welcome quality start. Etherton easily had his best start of the season despite earning the loss. He went eight innings giving up the one run on four hits and two walks while striking out eight. Brian Mallette finished the game off for the Bats.

The Clippers lone run was scored in the first inning when Kevin Reese was rewarded for hitting a leadoff triple by being sacrificed home by Andy Phillips.

The Louisville offense threatened to score in the seventh inning with runners on first and second with one out, but could not produce a run.

The time of tonight's game was 2:37 and the attendance was 10,488. The Bats will play the final game of the four-game series against the Columbus Clippers on Sunday, July 11 at 6:15 p.m. The starters are LHP Jung Keun Bong (5-6, 5.91) for Louisville while Columbus' starter is Brad Halsey (6-2, 252).
