Shiryaev Signs with IceGators
July 14, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Louisiana IceGators News Release
Lafayette, LA- Todd Gordon, the Louisiana IceGators Head Coach and Vice President of Hockey Operations, today announced the signing of Dennis Shiryaev to a standard ECHL contract for the 2004-05 season.
Shiryaev will return for his fourth season with the IceGators. Last season, the 6" 2" 225lb. left wing from Kharkov, Ukraine, had career bests with 11 goals and 15 assists for 26 points despite missing 30 games due to injuries. Shiryaev also mantained his status as one of the toughest players in the ECHL by amassing 257 penalty minutes in only 42 games. Shiryaev also set a personal best by scoring 3 goals during the playoffs. Ironically, all three lamp lighters came at the expense of the Pensacola Ice Pilots.
" Dennis is a quality, character guy who plays hard every shift every night," said Gordon. " We want to have a tough, physical team and he fits the mold on what we are looking for in a player."
Shiryaev is the first player to sign a contract with the team for the 2004-05 season. The 26 year old did not receive a qualifying offer from then head coach Dave Farrish, making him a free agent. After meeting with team owners and Coach Gordon, Shiryaev decided to remain an IceGator.
" I am happy to be returning to the IceGators," said Shiryaev. " My wife and son love it here in Lafayette and we are very excited about next season."
Season Tickets, Flex Plans, and Ice Pack ticket vouchers are on sale now for the IceGators 10th anniversary season. For more information call the IceGators office at (337) 234-4423.
