Trenton Devils News Release
TRENTON, NJ (July 14, 2004) - The Trenton Titans announced today that they have agreed to terms with defenseman Evan Nielsen for the 2004-05 season. Per club policy, the terms of the deal were not disclosed. Nielsen, 23, comes to the Titans after splitting his rookie season between the Gwinnett Gladiators of the ECHL and the AHL's Chicago Wolves. The second-year pro notched 19 points (6g, 13a) in 45 with the Gladiators and chipped in 1 goal over 18 games for Chicago.
"Evan's a second-year player that will provide stability for our defense," said Mike Haviland, Titans Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations. "He's had success at a number of different levels and we look for him to continue that trend in Trenton."
An eighth round (#242 overall) draft pick of the Atlanta Thrashers in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, Nielsen patrolled the backline for four years at the University of Notre Dame. There he compiled 16 goals and 51 assists for 67 career points over 156 games. The Evanston, IL native joined the Wolves for 5 games following his senior season, producing 1 goal and 5 PIM.
