Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, Tennessee - Mike Shildt, who managed the Memphis Redbirds during the 2015 and 2016 seasons, has been promoted to the uniformed position of Quality Control Coach with the St. Louis Cardinals, the organization announced Thursday.
Shildt served as manager with the Redbirds in 2015 and 2016 after managing three years with rookie-level Johnson City (2009-11) and three seasons with Double-A Springfield (2012-14). Shildt has spent every year since 2004 in the Cardinals organization.
The Redbirds went 73-71 in Shildt's first season in 2015 and 65-77 this past campaign. Shildt's 100th win as Redbirds skipper came on June 13, and he was as a coach for the Pacific Coast League's All-Star squad in July's Triple-A All-Star Game in his hometown of Charlotte.
The seventh manager in the history of the Redbirds will be announced in the coming months.
Shildt and the Cardinals will return to AutoZone Park for a "Battle of the Birds" exhibition game on Thursday, March 30, 2017. Multiple season and mini-membership options for the 2017 season are on sale now, and all include the "Battle of the Birds."

2016 In Review A total of 324,581 fans attended Memphis Redbirds games at AutoZone Park during the 2016 season, which is nearly a 17 percent increase over its total of 278,579 for the 2015 campaign. The percent increase for the season was fourth in all of Minor League Baseball, and the per-game change of 667 fans led the minors.
The figures were helped by seven sellouts during the season, including Saturday, Aug. 27, when an AutoZone Park post-renovations record crowd of 11,041 jammed the stadium. The ballpark was renovated in the 2014 offseason to its current configuration. In 2016, the Redbirds went from averaging just over 4,000 fans per game to more than 4,700 per contest.
The Redbirds' final weekend included a celebration of the 10 millionth fan to enter AutoZone Park since it opened in 2000, as well as a visit from President and Mrs. Jimmy Carter as part of the closing ceremony of Habitat for Humanity's Carter Work Project.
