Potomac Nationals News Release
WOODBRIDGE, Va.- The Washington Nationals have announced today that Shawn Hill is scheduled to pitch in a rehab start for the Potomac Nationals tomorrow night against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. Tuesday night's game is Opening Night for the P-Nats who return home from their series with Salem this past weekend.
Hill, who turns 27 later this month, continues to recover from right forearm tightness after he was placed on the 15-day disabled list during the spring. The right-hander pitched in a minor league intrasquad game on April 3rd and hopes to make his 2008 Major League debut against Atlanta on April 13th. After undergoing two surgeries during the offseason, Hill has never made more than 25 starts in a season during his three-year career with the Nationals.
Hill has pitched with Potomac before. In 2007 he started two games owning a 1.29 ERA in seven innings pitched.
Jordan Zimmermann, the originally scheduled starter is still expected to make an appearance. The Nationals 2007 second-round draft choice will enter the game as soon as Hill departs. The 21-year-old is the seventh rated overall prospect in the Nationals organization by Baseball America.
Opening Night for Potomac marks their 31st year of baseball in Northern Virginia. Hill is slated to oppose Gonzalo Lopez a right-hander from Myrtle Beach. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 at Pfitzner Stadium.
