Atlético Ottawa picked up their second win of the season on Sunday night, beating Cavalry 2-0 thanks to a 75th minute goal from Malcolm Shaw and a late goal from Antoine Coupland to seal the victory in stoppage time.

Tommy Wheeldon Jr's Cavalry side welcomed David Norman Jr back into its midfield to replace Nik Ledgerwood, and Daniel Kaiser in for Tom Field, among several changes. Mista handed Brandon John his first start of the season, and moved Drew Beckie to right back as the biggest change in the Ottawa lineup.

Daan Klomp had the game's first chance in the 6th minute, as the Cavalry centre-back fired a shot from the edge of the penalty box, but Ottawa goalkeeper Dylon Powley was able to get in front of it and keep the game scoreless.

Ottawa came closest in the 36th minute, with Drew Beckie getting his head on the end of a lobbed free kick into the box, but it was an easy save for Marco Carducci.

Richard Luca was inches away from giving Cavalry the lead at the end of the first half, drifting toward the edge of the box before turning and firing a curling shot toward the top left corner. Powley had no chance at getting to it, but it crashed back off the post, denying Luca a goal he deserved after causing problems down the right wing.

The two sides would enter the break tied at 0-0 - a fair reflection of a half in which both were defensively sound and didn't allow many big chances, just one shot on target each.

Atlético Ottawa would be the side to break the deadlock, with Malcolm Shaw finishing off a play created by Zach Verhoven. Verhoven sprinted onto a long pass over the Cavalry backline before taking a touch and sliding a pass across the box to Shaw, who fired it home from a few yards out, past a diving Marco Carducci.

That would end up being the game-winning goal, as Ottawa sat back and defended.

Cavalry thought they equalized in the 94th minute, as Anthony Novak seemed to redirect an equalizer into the net, but he was ruled to be offside.

17-year-old Antoine Coupland doubled the lead with one of the last kicks of the game, sliding the ball into an empty net after receiving the ball on a 2-on-0 breakaway with Viti Martinez.

Their second win, and second clean sheet, of the season sees Ottawa move up to 5th place after five matches.
