Sharks Win Streak Ends at 7 After 4-1 Road Loss in Bridgeport

Bridgeport, CT -The Worcester Sharks (39-24-4-2, 84pts) began a five game week with a 4-1 loss to the host Bridgeport Sound Tigers (27-36-6-1, 61pts) in front of 4,872 fans at the Webster Bank Arena on Monday evening. With the loss, the Sharks remain in 7th place in the Eastern Conference with seven games remaining in the regular season.

Gus Young scored the only goal for the Sharks while Troy Grosenick allowed three goals on 24 shots in net in the loss. Ryan Pulock, Dustin Jeffrey, Kael Moillierat, and Carson McMillan scored for the Sound Tigers while rookie Stephon Williams made 31 saves in net for his second professional victory. The Sharks are now 2-1-0-0 on their five game road trip which continues Tuesday at 7pm in Portland.

The Sound Tigers grabbed a 1-0 lead after rookie defenseman Ryan Pulock (17th) fired a drive from 45 feet through Troy Grosenick at 13:56 of the first period. Just 18 seconds later, Micheal Haley hit the cross bar but Gus Young (4th) was able to get the puck back in front and zipped a quick shot from the left circle past rookie goalie Stephon Williams at 14:14. Bridgeport went back ahead at 17:07 as Dustin Jeffrey (23rd) finished off a 2-on-1 rush for the final score of the opening period. Each team had nine shots on net as the Sharks trailed 2-1 after 20 minutes.

Neither team found the back of the net in the second period as Worcester outshot Bridgeport 15-8. Tough guy Brett Gallant picked up 27 penalty minutes which included a game misconduct after an altercation with Taylor Doherty (7th fighting major) at 10:18 of the second period. The Sharks trailed 2-1 after 40 minutes.

In the third period, Bridgeport scored just 10 seconds into a power play as Kael Moillierat (22nd) zipped a puck past Grosenick from on top of the Sharks crease after a great feed from the corner at 14:52. The Sound Tigers went ahead 4-1 with an empty net score at 18:01 by Carson McMillan (4th) as the Sharks seven game win streak came to a screeching halt.

The Sharks overall record falls to 39-24-4-2, 84pts and 17-14-2-1, 37pts on the road this season.

Tonight's game was rescheduled from Dec 21 due to travel issues by the Sound Tigers...Worcester dressed nine rookies...Micheal Haley now has a three game point streak (0-3-3).
