
Sharks Win at Morehead City

Wilmington Sharks News Release
The Sharks offense ran over the Marlins 10-6 in Morehead City tonight. Wilmington's 10 runs and 15 hits were both season highs. The win gets the Sharks back to 0.500 at 4-4 while the Marlins fall to 2-6. The bread and butter tonight for the Sharks was hitting with 2 outs. In the first inning the first two hitters were retired and then Riley Knudsen singled into right field. Dom Cuoci was then hit on the next pitch bringing Cory Everett to the plate. Everett and Michael Sandle hit back-to- back singles to take a 2-0 lead. In the bottom half of the first, Joe Mason took Breydan Gorham deep on the righty's first pitch of the night. Morehead City pushed another run across to tie the game at 2-2. In the next inning, the Sharks did damage again with 2 outs. With the bases loaded and two retired Dom Cuoci singled to put the Sharks back up by 2. In the bottom of the 2nd, the Marlins answered once again. After 2 innings of play it was tied at 4. The Sharks came up to hit again in the third inning and broke this one wide open. With 2 on and 1 out, Brian Parreira singled through the right side to drive in two runs. Then with 2 outs, Marcus Shoemaker hit a single into left field to drive in the Sharks 5th run of the game with 2 outs. The two teams would go scoreless until the Marlins pushed across runs in the 7th and 8th innings. However, the Sharks two in the 8th on Riley Knudsen second two-run home run of the season, which of course came with 2 outs. Wilmington pushed one more across in the 9th inning with 2 outs. In total, the Sharks scored 8 of their 10 runs against the Marlins with 2 outs. Breydan Gorham (1-0) picked up his first win of the season, while Patrick McDonald (0-1) lost for the first time. Evan Brabrand came on in the 7th inning with one out and recorded the final 8 outs to pick up his first save. Wilmington returns home tomorrow to host the Fayetteville SwampDogs.
