Jacksonville Sharks News Release

JACKSONVILLE, Fla - The Jacksonville Sharks defeated the AFL's newest franchise, the Pittsburgh Power, 65-40 for the fourth consecutive win. The offense scored on every offensive drive with balance. The Sharks scored with five passing touchdowns, four rushing touchdowns and a field goal.

For a second consecutive game, the Sharks allowed 14 points in the opening quarter. The Sharks were the first to score, but the Power continued to match, blow-for-blow until late in the second quarter when the Sharks forced the first four-and-out. The Sharks forced the Power to two turnovers on downs in the first half, taking advantage by scoring on both, including a 24-yard field goal by Marco Capozzoli as time expired. Capozzoli's kick tied the franchise record for field goals made in a season and in a career for the young Jacksonville franchise.

The second half started in much of the same way as the first. Pittsburgh and Jacksonville traded touchdowns throughout the third quarter, both missing a point-after attempt. The scoring rally continued in the fourth with Pittsburgh scoring once between two Sharks scores before Jacksonville forced the final turnover of the game and was able to let time expire.

The Sharks victory is the third by 24 points or more. The Sharks also held a team below 50 points for the third straight game. Quarterback Aaron Garcia tied his own franchise record of 31 completions in a game while throwing five touchdowns. Garcia now sits at 992 total passing touchdowns. The Sharks also tied a team record with four rushing touchdowns, two by Kirby Griffin and two by rookie Jamarko Simmons. Issac Morales continues his streak of only catching touchdown passes by catching his second pass for his second touchdown. Jeron Harvey continued his streak of consecutive games with a touchdown (11 games) while Jeff Hughley did not find the end zone for the first time in his AFL career. Griffin rushed for over 25 yards for the third time in 2011.
