Wilmington Sharks News Release
Wilmington, NC; May 10, 2012 - The Wilmington Sharks of the Coastal Plain League (CPL) announced they have signed a pair of right-handed pitchers from the University of Richmond, Andrew Brockett and Jonathan deMarte. They will join Spiders teammate Jake Mayers, an infielder, on the Sharks roster.
Brockett, a native of North Haven, Ct., is currently in his sophomore season for the Spiders and will play collegiate summer ball for the first time. He leads the team with 20 games pitched, making three starts. The righty is winless, and has taken eight losses despite fanning 38 batters and walking just 13 in 37.1 innings.
As a freshman, deMarte has not seen the mound for Richmond in 2012 and will take a redshirt year. He was named the CollegeSportsMadness.com Atlantic-10 Preseason Freshman of the Year after being named Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of New York in each of his final two high school seasons.
