Wilmington, NC; January 28, 2011 - The Wilmington Sharks of the Coastal Plain League (CPL) announced they have signed infielders K.J. McAllister and Scott Coleman.
McAllister, a freshman at Coastal Carolina will be making his summer collegiate baseball debut this summer with the Sharks. Prior to enrolling at Coastal, McAlister played his senior of high school at Gainesville HS in Clearmont, GA. Named All-State and first team All-Area by the Gainesville Times as a senior, McAllister batted .534 with 11 doubles, five home runs, 44 RBI and a school-record 34 stolen bases, while helping to lead the Red Elephants to a 30-4 record. McAllister played his freshman season at New Hanover High School, helping them to the second round of the 4A State playoffs. In 2004 he was inducted into the American Youth Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y.
A graduate of Hoggard High School, Coleman now a freshman at Gardner-Webb University will be making his summer collegiate baseball debut with the Sharks.
A three year All-state third baseman, Coleman hit .521 with 38 hits, eight doubles, four home runs and 29 RBI to lead the Vikings to a 21-3 record and a No. 4 state ranking overall in 2010. He was a first-team All-Area selection by the Wilmington Star-News for the third season in a row and earned second-team All-State honors (all classifications) from NCPiedmontSports.com in June.
The Wilmington Sharks are members of Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 15th season, The Coastal Plain League features 15 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer.
