Wilmington Sharks News Release
Wilson, N.C. - The Wilmington Sharks (5-5, 19-18) picked up a much needed 5-1 victory on the road Wednesday night against the Wilson Tobs (4-4, 19-15).
DJ Thomas was the starter for the Sharks as he picked up his second win of the year against the Tobs. He tossed six shutout innings and gave up only four hits and struck out four. Each team picked up five hits in the ballgame.
The Sharks got on the board first as Austin Below led off the fifth inning with a single. Andrew Amaro and Zach MacAneney drew back-to-back walks to load up the bases with no outs. Zach Stephens came to the plate with one out and the bases loaded and hit a grand slam over the left centerfield fence to give Wilmington a 4-0 lead and was plenty of cushion for the Sharks pitching staff.
MacAneney picked up a single in the seventh inning and eventually scored on an error from the first baseman to give the Sharks a 5-0 lead. The Tobs were able to pick up a run in the bottom of the eighth to make it 5-1, but were unable to get any more offense put together.
The Wilmington Sharks will return back home on Thursday night as they will welcome the Wilson Tobs to town for a doubleheader with the game one first pitch at 6:00 p.m.
The Wilmington Sharks are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league.
