Corpus Christi Sharks News Release
The bitter rivalry between the Rio Grande Valley Dorados and the Corpus Christi Sharks was renewed for the third time this season Monday night at the Dodge Arena in Hidalgo as both teams fought for their playoff lives, with the Dorados coming out on top, 48-26.
After taking a 7-0 lead just 1:15 into the ballgame the Sharks (6-8) struggled to find a rhythm offensively, committing two first half turnovers and went into the halftime break trailing 21-16.
Following a defensive stop to start the second half of play, the Sharks took a 23-21 lead when Fran Johnson connected with Brandon Hussey on a 5-yard touchdown pass just 3:12 into the third quarter.
After adding a 24-yard field goal by Dylan Pohlman with 9:16 left in the game, the Sharks offense came to a grinding halt as the Dorados defense recovered two fumbles in the end zone, putting the finishing touches on the game, the Sharks chances for a Southwest Division crown and, possibly, the Sharks playoff hopes this season.
Jonathan Graham, who had four catches for 49 yards broke the 1,000-yard mark for the season.
Brandon Hussey, who surpassed the 1,000-yard mark a week ago, extended his new franchise record for receiving touchdowns in a season to 25 with two scores.
The Sharks will return home on Sunday, July 20th, for Pack the House for Charity night when they will take on the Texas Copperheads in the final regular season game at Radiology Associates Field inside the American Bank Center. Kickoff is set for 3:05 p.m.
