Sharks Left Frustrated in Road Opener

Wilmington, NC - The start of season frustration continued for another night as the Wilmington Sharks fell 12-2 to the Lexington County Blowfish Saturday night at Lexington County Baseball Ballpark. The loss dropped the Sharks to 0-3 on the season. With one out in the bottom of the first. Trace Whetsell reached first for the Salamanders on a dropped third strike. He then advanced to second on a wild pitch. With two outs, Jordan Holiday singled him home to give the Blowfish the early 1-0 lead. After Zacchaeus Rasberry was hit by the pitch, Josiah Sightler singled him home to make it 2-0.

Kipp Capell led off the bottom of the second with a single. Tyler Corbitt followed with a double to score him followed by a Whetsell single to score Corbitt making it 4-0. Houston Wright then grounded to short but Sharks shortstop Jonah Beamon was unable to make the play putting runners on first and second with still nobody out. With the bases loaded, Josh Gregory hit into a fielder's choice to score Whetsell and make it 5-0. Sightler followed with a double to score Wright. With two outs, Josh Senter doubled to drive home Gregory and Sightler giving the Blowfish an 8-0 lead in the second.

Trailing 9-0, the Sharks got on the board when Tucker Greer led off the sixth with a walk. He then came in to score on three straight wild pitches. The Sharks added another run an inning later when Parker Nolan scored on a wild pitch to trim the deficit to 9-2 but they would not get any closer.

The Sharks will be back in action Tuesday night against the Fayetteville SwampDogs at JP Riddle Stadium. Colin Kennedy will start on the mound for the Sharks. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05PM.

The Sharks will return to Buck Hardee Field on Saturday June 8th against the Fayetteville SwampDogs. The first 500 fans into the stadium will receive a free Sharks hat presented by Pepsi. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05PM with the gates opening at 6:00PM.
