Morehead City, N.C. - The Morehead City Marlins (10-13) dropped a heartbreaker in extra-innings by a score of 3-2 to the Wilmington Sharks (12-9) in extra innings at Big Rock Stadium on an overcast Monday night.

The Marlins took a 1-0 lead in the home half of second inning when Dalton Britt laced an RBI single up the middle, scoring Sam Ott from second base. The lead lasted until the top half of the ninth when Alex Friedman roped a two-RBI single right-centerfield, giving the Sharks a 2-1 lead.

Morehead City struck right back in the home half of the ninth on an RBI double by Britt, this time a line drive into the left-centerfield gap. Then Zach Stephens put the Sharks ahead with a rocket double to right field, which brought Derrick Justice in to score making a 3-2 ball game heading to the home half of the tenth.

Despite a one-out double off the bat of Ryan Cranmer, the Marlins failed to score and the Sharks hung on for the 3-2 victory. Brennan James got the win for the Sharks, while Kyle Weary suffered the loss for the Marlins. Jacob Hoyle and Jonathan Bobea combined for 7 innings of shutout baseball and allowed just three hits and struck out 11 for the Marlins. Alex Luna, Grant Paplin, Stu Jones, and Nick Green all had solid outings for the Sharks.

The Marlins travel to Wilmington tomorrow night to face the Sharks at Buck Hardee Field at 7:05 PM and return home to Morehead City on Wednesday to face the Peninsula Pilots.
