Sharks Come Close in Doubleheader at Home on Sunday

Wilmington, N.C. - The Wilmington Sharks came up just short on Sunday evening as they were beat 6-5 and 1-0 in a doubleheader at home against the Peninsula Pilots.
In game one, which was a continuation from the June 7th matchup between these two teams in Peninsula that was suspended due to rain was picked up in the bottom of the 2nd inning as the Pilots led 4-2. The Sharks started off early tying up the game in the bottom of the third when Zach Houchins and Cody Dolan each drove in a run to make it 4-4.
In the sixth inning, John Fidanza stole second and the throw skipped into center field, which allowed TJ Losby to score from third to give the Sharks their first lead of the ball game 5-4. Wes McGuire came up in the bottom half of the six and drove in two runs on a single through the left side to give the Pilots a 6-5 lead and was enough to give the Pilots the win.
The second game was a seven inning game and had a much different feeling as both starting pitchers came out throwing well on the hill. Tyler Bolton threw six innings for the Sharks as he gave up only two hits and struck out six. Bolton has now thrown 17 scoreless innings in his first three starts for the Sharks as he picked up the no decision on Sunday night.
Garrett Brooks picked up a big RBI single in the top of the seventh inning for the Pilots as that was enough to get the 1-0 win and the Sunday sweep over the Sharks. The Pilots improve to 8-8 with the two wins and the Sharks move to 8-8 with the two loses.
The Wilmington Sharks play at home on Monday evening as they take on Catawba Valley in an exhibition game with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch.
The Wilmington Sharks are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league.
