Jacksonville Sharks News Release
It would be hard to assume that Jacksonville Sharks (11-4) quarterback Bernard Morris made his first start in the AFL for injured veteran Aaron Garcia against the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings (3-12). Morris kept his poise all game long as he connected with four different receivers for 19-of-25 passing attempts for 228 yards and three touchdowns. Morris also contributed on the ground running the ball 5 times for 42 yards and a touchdown. Kirby Griffin continued the work on the ground with three rushing touchdowns on five carries for 16 yards.
The real story of the game was the Sharks tenacity on defense. The Sharks held the Battle Wings scoreless in the second half and a season low 20 points on the game. Though the defense did not come away with any interceptions, the Sharks had 18 pass breakups led by defensive back Micheaux Robinson with 7. The defense ended 6 consecutive Battle Wings drives to end with no points - one ending in a safety. The Sharks scored 35 unanswered points after trailing 13-20 in the second quarter.
The Sharks close out the regular season next week against the Spokane Shock (13-2) at home on Sea Best Field Friday, July 30th at 8:05 pm EDT.
