Jacksonville Sharks News Release

JACKSONVILLE - The Jacksonville Sharks announced Thursday that kicker Kyle Brotzman has been assigned to the Jacksonville Sharks' roster on a one-year contract. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Brotzman, a 29-year-old (5'10", 190) Idaho native is no stranger to the Arena Football League. Brotzman got his start in the AFL with the Utah Blaze in 2011, spending three seasons with the team. Former teammate of Tommy Grady in Utah, Brotzman also found success during his time with the Blaze. Brotzman's career with the Blaze resulted in an 84.1% point after attempt rating making 232 PATs out of 276 attempts, as well as recording three for seven in field goals for Utah.

Prior to the start of his professional career, Brotzman was a walk-on at Boise State University, where he quickly made a name for himself starting at both the kicker and punter positions for the Broncos during his four-year collegiate career. Brotzman made 67 field goals for the Broncos and connected for 238 PATs becoming the highest scoring player in school history. Known for his deadly accuracy, Brotzman also proved to have a cannon for a leg recording a 75-yard punt in his sophomore season and making 3 for 4 field goals from 40-49 yards out his senior year.

Despite his notable kicking stats one of Brotzman's greatest moments during his college career did not come off his foot but from a fourth down 30-yard passing touchdown out of punt formation to win the 2010 Fiesta Bowl. The former walk-on left a memorable career at Boise State becoming the all-time highest scoring Kicker in Division I history; a record now claimed by Dustin Hopkins a former Florida State Seminole (2009-2012).

Brotzman was born and raised in Meridian, Idaho not a far trip from Boise. Brotzman attended Meridian High School where he played soccer until his junior before switching to football under the guidance of former Meridian High Football coach Mike Virden. Virden current coaches at the College of Idaho and has followed Brotzman's career since he left Meridian for Boise State.
