
Sharks Add Veteran Defensive End

JACKSONVILLE - The Jacksonville Sharks announced Sunday that veteran defensive end Khreem Smith was assigned to the team. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Smith (6'4", 265, Oklahoma State University) returns to the AFL since beginning his rookie season with the Chicago Rush where he played defensive end during the team's ArenaBowl Championship run in 2006 where he was earned AFL All-Rookie team honors. He recorded 22.5 tackles, eight sacks, six forced fumbles, two pass break-ups and one blocked kick, recording the third-highest in single-season sacks in Rush history and led the AFL in forced fumbles with Chicago. Leaving the Rush, he joined the Minnesota Vikings in 2006 and the Kansas City Chiefs in 2007 before returning to the AFL with the Rush in 2008. In 2010, joined the Milwaukee Iron and then the Spokane Shock in 2011. Throughout his AFL career, he was named Second-Team All-Arena in 2006 and First-Team All-Arena in 2010.
Following the 2011 season with the Shock, Smith played for the CFL's BC Lions where he started at defensive end. Smith recorded 147 tackles, 36 sacks and six forced fumbles in five seasons with the Lions, and helped the team to a 99th Grey Cup Championship.
In his collegiate career, Smith played defensive end at Garden City Community College in 2000 where he started every game and received All-Jayhawk Conference honorable mention. He then went on to play at Oklahoma State University where he recorded 94 total tackles (65 solo), 8.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and one interception. He was named Second-Team All-Big 12 in 2003.
A native of St. James, Jamaica, Smith attended Carol City High School in Miami, Florida. He earned First-Team All-State honors, MVP of the Dade/Broward County All-Star game and the defensive MVP in the Shrine Bowl.
