Jacksonville Sharks News Release
JACKSONVILLEÂ - The Jacksonville Sharks announced Monday that defensive lineman Geneath Moffett has been assigned to the team's roster. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Moffett (6'2", 280) returns to the Arena Football League for the first time since 2010, when he was a member of the Sharks during the team's first season in the AFL. Working along the defensive line, Moffett totaled 10 tackles (seven solo) and two sacks while also forcing two fumbles and knocking down a pair of passes.
Prior to the start of his AFL career, Moffett attended the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' training camp in 2009 after graduating from Florida State University. Recently, Moffett spent time as the defensive line coach at Heritage High School in Palm Bay, his alma mater.
At Florida State, Moffett played 36 career games along the Seminoles' defensive line. As a senior, he was named ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week for his performance against Clemson when he returned an interception for a touchdown that helped lift the Seminoles to a 41-27 victory. Moffett totaled 19 tackles and had single season career high of 5.5 sacks during his last season with the Seminoles.
A native of Florida, Geneath played linebacker at Palm Bay Senior High School where he was ranked No. 4 in the Rivals Florida Top 50 during his senior season. He accumulated 160 tackles, eight sacks and four forced fumbles his senior year for the Pirates. Moffett was heavily recruited by the University of Miami, Georgia and Oklahoma before making the decision to commit to Florida State. He was also a two-time state champion in track and field.
The Sharks also announced Monday that the team has placed kicker Jon Striefsky on reassignment. Following the moves, the Sharks' roster remains at the League maximum of 24 active players.
