Corpus Christi Sharks News Release
Corpus Christi Sharks Vice President & General Manager Larry Linde announced today that the Arena Football team has added All Conference Center Raymond James to anchor the team's offensive line and former Texas Lutheran lineman Marcus "Dustin" Meaux for the 2008 season.
The 6' 5" 295lb James is a 6 year af2 veteran and played his collegiate ball in the Coastal Bend at Texas A&M Kingsville. While playing with the Florida Firecats, James earned All-Conference honors in both 2006 and 2007. James was the leader of a Firecat offensive line that only allowed 10 sacks last season, the fewest in the league. While James is expected to anchor the Sharks offensive line in 2008 he has also demonstrated the ability to play on the defensive side of the ball and will probably see time there as well. Sharks head Coach Mike Trigg is thrilled with the addition of James. "Raymond is a premier talent that immediately makes our line better", said Trigg. "Success starts with being able to protect our Quarterback and Raymond definitely has demonstrated that ability over his career".
Competing for a starting job along side James will be former Texas Lutheran stand out Marcus "Dustin" Meaux. The 6'2", 300lb Meaux attended the recent Sharks free agent combine in San Antonio and immediately impressed the Sharks coaching staff. Meaux is yet another addition to the Sharks roster that was given serious looks by NFL scouts last season. While attending Texas Lutheran, Meaux demonstrated solid pass blocking ability and great footwork providing excellent protection for Bulldogs quarterback Matt Schumacher. "Dustin is a player that has a great attitude, tremendous upside, and potential" said Trigg. "He's definitely pushing for a starting slot on our roster".
The Sharks will spend the first two weeks of the 2008 season on the road playing in Austin and Bossier-Shreveport. The Sharks return to the American Bank Center on Saturday, April 12th for their home opener against the rival Rio Grande Valley Dorados.
