Shannon, Davis Receive UIF Honors for Week Five

EVANSVILLE, IN: The Evansville BlueCats are pleased to announce that running back/kick returner Odest Shannon has been named Special Teams Player of the Week by the league and defensive back Choo Choo Davis has been recognized as the Defensive Player of the Week "Honorable Mention" for Week 5.
Last week against the Sioux City Bandits, Odest Shannon had 2 kick returns for 25 yards and recovered a Bandits fumble on a kickoff as part of the BlueCats kickoff coverage unit. Shannon also contributed 14 rushing yards and 17-yard touchdown reception to the BlueCats offense. So far this season, Odest Shannon has returned 19 kicks for 301 yards and 2 touchdowns. He currently leads the team with 301 kickoff return yards and 414 all-purpose yards through the first 5 games of the season. This is the 3rd UIF Player of the Week Award in Shannon's career, having been previously selected twice for the award in 2005 as the Offensive Player of the Week (Week 6, 2005) and Special Teams Player of the Week (Week 15, 2005).
Also being recognized by the league this week is BlueCats defensive back Choo Choo Davis. The UIF has named Davis the UIF Defensive Player of the Week "Honorable Mention" for his performance last week against the Bandits where he had 2 interceptions, 3.5 tackles, and a pass break up. His 2 interceptions in the game give him a total of 4 interceptions so far this season, which ties him for the league lead. He's also made 15.5 tackles this season, ranking 4th on the team.
Other players receiving league awards for Week 5 were Sioux Falls running back Marques Smith (Offensive Player of the Week) and River City linebacker CJ Jones (Defensive Player of the Week).
This Saturday night Odest Shannon, Choo Choo Davis, and the rest of the Evansville BlueCats travel to Wheeling, West Virginia, to take on the Ohio Valley Greyhounds. All BlueCats road games can be heard on News-Talk 1280 WGBF-AM or on the web at www.103gbfrocks.com. Kickoff is scheduled for 6pm Evansville time with the pregame show beginning at 5:40pm.
