
Seven-run second earns series split for Camden

NEWARK, NJ - September 21, 2006 - The Camden Riversharks scored seven runs in the top of the second inning en route to a 16-5 victory over the Newark Bears Thursday evening in the final 2006 game at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium. Despite the loss, the Bears were able to earn the split in the two game series.
Already leading 2-0 entering the second inning, Camden got RBI singles from left-fielder Rich Barrett and second baseman Lino Connell, sacrifice-flies by right-fielder Denny Abreu and designated hitter John Pacot, and a two-run home run by center-fielder Dwight Maness to put Camden ahead 9-0.
For the Bears center-fielder Anthony Sanders had a two-run triple in the bottom of the second inning, and first baseman Victor Rodriguez ended the game 4-for-4 including a solo home run in the bottom of the third inning, and a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning for his fourth and fifth home runs of the season.
For the Riversharks, Abreu went 3-for-4 including a walk, sacrifice fly, RBI double, triple, and a solo home run, his 14th of the season, while Maness finished with two home runs for his 11th and 12th of the season.
Bears starter Mike Cosgrove (0-7) took the loss after allowing nine runs on nine hits in 1 2/3 innings, while Rik Currier (2-0) earned the victory with six innings pitched, allowing three runs on seven hits, striking out seven.
The Bears will complete the 2006 season on the road at Bernie Robbins Stadium in Atlantic City against the Surf. Game one of the three-game series will be Friday evening with first pitch scheduled for 6:35pm. Shaun Babula (0-1) is scheduled to make just his second start of his career, and first this season.
