Denver Outlaws News Release
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. - Seven Denver Outlaws will compete for gold at the 2014 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championships on Saturday night at 7 p.m. at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo.
Jesse Schwartzman and Lee Zink will compete for Team USA, and Curtis Dickson, Cam Flint, Zack Greer, Cam Holding, Jeremy Noble, Dillon Roy, and John Grant Jr. (coach) will compete for Team Canada.
The Denver Outlaws tied with Rochester and Chesapeake for the most players (8) on rosters for 2014 Worlds. If you factor in John Grant Jr. coaching for Team Canada, the Outlaws lead the MLL for most players involved in Worlds.
Team USA routed Australia in the first semifinal match of the 2014 Worlds. Team USA went undefeated (5-0) in division pool play and earned the No. 1 seed for the bracket portion of competition.
The Americans defeated the Aussies by a 22-3 count with a defense anchored by Lee Zink and goalie Jesse Schwartzman. Both Zink and Schwartzman started for USA, and Schwartzman had all three saves of the night for USA in the 50 minutes and 40 seconds he played in net.
Canada and Iroquois faced off in the second semifinal match of the night, in what was a highly anticipated rematch of their thrilling game in Blue Division competition this past week. The Iroquois led 4-3 at the half, but Curtis Dickson netted three goals in a row in the third quarter to give Canada its first lead of the night.
Zack Greer made it four consecutive Outlaw Canadian goals to give them a 9-4 lead early in the fourth quarter. Cam Holding added a fourth-quarter assist followed by a Cam Flint goal to seal the victory for Canada. Jeremy Noble had two assists on the night, and Dillon Roy anchored a defense that allowed only two second-half goals.
A record 38 nations competed in the FIL World Championships in Denver, and it is the first time the event has been held in the United States since 1998 when Baltimore hosted the international event.
The Denver Outlaws return to action at home against the Florida Launch on Sunday, July 20, at 1:00 p.m. MDT.
