Seven members of the Corvallis Knights were selected to the South Division roster for the 2016 West Coast League All-Star Game, WCL president Donnie Marbut announced Sunday.

The annual midsummer classic is set for Monday, July 19, at Dale Story Field in Longview, Wash., hosted by the Cowlitz Black Bears. The teams were selected by a vote of the coaches.

The honored Knights are shortstop Andy Atwood (Oregon State); corner infielder Michael Farris (UC Riverside); center fielder Kyle Nobach (OSU), and left-handed pitchers Cameron Bishop (UC Irvine), Chase Kaplan (Western Nevada/Kansas in 2016-17), Trenton Dupre (Washington State) and Ryley Widell (Central Arizona in 2016-17).

"It's a great honor for these players to be included in the best of the best of the West Coast League," Knights manager Brooke Knight said. "They all are deserving and will be great representatives for our team."

A rising sophomore at OSU, Atwood leads the WCL batting race with a .356 average (31-87). He has one homer, 15 RBIs, and five stolen bases.

A senior-to-be at UCR, Farris is hitting .258 (17-66) with a team-high 16 RBIs. He is tied for fifth in the WCL's RBI race.

A senior-to-be at OSU, Nobach is hitting .311, with no homers, 10 RBIs and three stolen bases. He is second on the Knights in average among players with 50 or more at-bats.

A rising junior at UCI, Bishop is 1-2, 0.52 in four games, with 22 strikeouts in 17 innings. He is tied for third on the team in strikeouts and has not allowed an extra-base hit. Opponents are hitting just .149 against him.

Kaplan is 1-0, 0.69 in nine games, is tied for the WCL leads with seven saves, and has converted 7 of 8 save opportunities. He has 12 strikeouts in 13 innings and also has not allowed an extra-base hit. Opponents are hitting just .167 against him.

A senior-to-be at WSU, Dupre is 2-0, 0.40 in five games, with 17 strikeouts in 22.1 innings. He has allowed just one extra-base hit and has held opposing hitters to a .212 average.

Widell played at WSU in 2016 but will be a sophomore at Central Arizona in 2017. He is 2-1 with a 1.82 ERA in eight games and is tied for the team lead with 29 strikeouts in 24.2 innings. Opponents are hitting just .136 against him.

The seven Knights will be joined on the South team by players from Yakima Valley, Bend, Gresham, Kitsap, and host Cowlitz. The North team will feature players from Victoria, Wenatchee, Walla Walla, Bellingham and Kelowna.

Bend infielder George Mendazona was also named to the South Division team. An OSU signee for 2017, he is the grandson of former Beavers basketball and baseball star Jim Jarvis.
