Seven Black Bears Selected to Play in West Coast League All-Star Game

Longview-Kelso, Washington: Friday, July 22, 2011: Seven players from the Cowlitz Black Bears have been selected to play in the 2011 WCL Al Star Game, which will be played in Corvallis on Tuesday July 26, at Goss Stadium on the campus of OSU.

WCL players were selected to the team by the team's fan vote, league coaches and executives, and the Major League Baseball scouting Bureau.

One player from each team was selected by the team's great fans. Spencer O'Neil (Draft Pick Yankees) won the fan voting and earned an automatic spot on the roster. O'Neil is currently hitting .303 avg., 1 Hr, and 19 RBIs.

The Western Division team will be coached by Broke Knight of the host Corvallis Knights. Ed Knaggs will lead the Eastern Division and is the coach of the Wenatchee Apple Sox.

Cowlitz outfielder Kyle Garlick (University of Oregon), who is second in the league in hitting at .350 will be joined in the West outfield by Black Bears teammates O'Neil and Billy Flamion (Draft Pick Astros), shortstop Mitchell Walding (Draft Pick Astros), and Catcher Braxton Miller (Lewis-Clark St.)

The West pitching staff includes Cowlitz hurler Jeff Gold (University of Oregon) and Porter Clayton (University of Oregon). "His will be a very exciting game to watch, "said G Grant Wilson. What will be most fun is looking back in 5 years to see how many of these players are playing in Major League Baseball".
