Cowlitz Black Bears News Release

Longview-Kelso: Stewart Fewel (LCC) had gone a month since his last victory, when he pitched a three-hit shutout against the Bellingham Bells. With his team facing a home sweep at the hands of the Kitsap BlueJackets, Fewel came through with another wire-to-wire performance.

Fewel went the distance against Kitsap, scattering eleven hits and surviving a furious comeback in the 9th inning when the visitors plated two runs. He was the definition of efficient, needing only 84 pitches without giving up a walk.

Mike Bush (Lewis-Clark St.) gave the Black Bears the lead with a two-run home run in the second inning that also served as the team's first lead in the series versus the BlueJackets. The majority of the damage came as part of a four-run fourth inning highlighted by an RBI double by Kirk Cunningham (LSU). His LSU teammate Beau Didier reached base on a hit and two walks and Braxton Miller (Lewis-Clark St.) ended a five-game hitless streak with a single in the 4th.

The West Division-leading Corvallis Knights come to Story Field for a two-game weekend series. It will be Applebee's Saturday at the Park and Elder Options Senior Sunday. Saturday will also be Black Bears Trading Card Night presented by Mr. C's where the first 100 kids will receive a pack of trading cards containing their favorite Black Bears players. Great Time for youngsters to get their favorite players autographs.
