September 5 Game Notes: Syracuse at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre
September 5, 2016 - International League (IL1)
Syracuse Mets News Release
The End: Syracuse wraps up its 2016 season this afternoon against the RailRiders. Syracuse started the season at a 27- 21, and sat in first place in the I.L. North for 23 of the season's first 41 days. Since May 30th however, Syracuse is just 34-60, the worst record in the league. Some of the Chiefs struggles can be explained by their lack of success against the top three teams in the I.L. North. The Chiefs enter play today just 16-36 against the I.L. North's three best teams (SWB, LHV, ROC), while holding a record of 45- 45 against everyone else. The Chiefs have averaged 3.08 runs, hit .229 and posted a 4.49 ERA against three teams who all won more than 80 games. Against the rest of the league, the Chiefs hit .242, averaged 3.83 runs/game, and held an ERA of 3.41.
Remember the Good Times...: The Chiefs have stolen 108 bases while being caught a league-low 23 times. Their 82.4% stolen-base mark is the best in full-season affiliated baseball...Caleb Ramsey more than tripled his extra-base hits from a season ago. After tallying just nine with the Chiefs in 2015, Ramsey has 25 doubles, and 31 extra-base hits...Matt Skole put together his best season above A-ball, and will finish in the top five in the I.L. in games, at-bats, home runs, RBIs, runs scored, total bases and walks...Brian Goodwin raised his season average by 61 points from his first Triple-A go around in 2014. Goodwin also dramatically increased his home runs (+10), doubles (+15), hits (+62), and slugging percentage (+110 points)...Austin Voth enters the season's final day with the league's third-best qualifying ERA...Trea Turner was in the top two in the I.L. in runs, triples, at-bats, stolen bases, hits, extra-base hits, and double in 83 games at the time of his promotion to Washington...The Chiefs received three mid-season All-Star selections (Turner, Goodwin, Martin), and one post-season All-Star nod (Turner)...The Chiefs sent 15 players to the first-place Washington Nationals this season.
On the Track Back: Joe Ross will make his fourth rehab start for the Chiefs this season tonight and third in a row.
Ross threw one inning last Sunday and an inning and two- thirds on Tuesday. Ross allowed just one hit Tuesday. Ross has been on the disabled list since July 3rd with right shoulder inflammation, and made two rehab starts in late July (one w/Hagerstown, one w/Syracuse) before he was shut down again until last Sunday. Ross held a 3.49 ERA in 16 starts with Washington this season before he was injured.
